Logo Design Process

  • When you’re ready to begin, I’ll request a signed proposal and a 50% deposit. Once received, we’ll schedule a project kickoff meeting.

Before the meeting, I’ll provide a questionnaire to help you reflect on your new logo and give me a primer for our discussion. This initial meeting is an opportunity for me to gain a deeper understanding of your business or organization, and I’ll come prepared with questions. This stage is crucial for setting a solid foundation for the design phases that follow.

For established businesses or organizations looking to rebrand, I can incorporate a Brand Audit into this process. In this incremental stage, I’ll evaluate your current branding strategies and provide an assessment. This helps us identify what’s working, what to keep, and key areas for improvement. From there, we can move on to the next stage of the process.

  • At this stage, I’ll analyze your competitors from local to international levels, identifying standout logos in your industry. I’ll present my findings to you to gauge your preferences, allowing us to avoid investing significant time in concepts that may not resonate. This process informs us about industry trends and helps me begin to conceptualize your logo.

  • I typically present 6-8 unique concepts at this stage, where I’ll be “testing the waters.” You’ll see a range of ideas from traditional to contemporary, all presented in black and white. If we start in full color, you may focus more on your preferred colors or schemes rather than the overall aesthetic.

It’s generally best to begin with a single color and develop from there, rather than starting in full color and trying to reverse engineer it for various uses. It’s also important to have a single-color logo as a fallback for applications such as etching into glass, burning into wood, or printing in black and white.

  • Your logo package is all-inclusive. During this stage, we may go through anywhere from 1 to 100 rounds of revisions. I won’t stop until you’ve selected 1 or 2 logos that you want to move forward with.

  • In this stage, I apply color options to the remaining concepts, offering unlimited possibilities. Your logo will begin to take shape, and a clear favorite will start to emerge.

  • In this stage, we develop your primary logo along with a secondary horizontal version or a compact version for specific applications. For instance, if your logo is vertical and you need to advertise in a wide banner ad, you’ll have a suitable logo for that format. By the end of this process, you’ll have a polished logo and the tools necessary to maintain your brand integrity across all uses.

  • I’ll take your logo suite and format it into various color schemes (CMYK, RGB, PMS etc). Having different formats ensures that you have the correct version for it’s application. Additionally, your logo will be prepared in your preferred file types (typically PNG and EPS). This concludes the logo process, and you will have everything you need to start implementing your logo everywhere.

  • A Brand Standards Manual can be added to your logo package to ensure consistency in the future. It’s essential to establish comprehensive guidelines for your new logo’s use. Vendors, employees, and partners need clear rules to uphold the integrity of your brand. The manual will include your color codes, logo variations, font guidelines, and it’s rules for use, ensuring uniformity across all applications. Brand Standards Manuals come in various formats, and we’ll discuss which option works best for your needs.
